8 Tasty Coffee Shops and Cafes in Tromsø, Norway (+ Map)
One of the first things I search for when I arrive in a new city is a list of the top cafes. I am a coffee nerd (probably an understatement) and it is essential for me when I am on the road.
This guide contains my favorite coffee shops and cafes in Tromsø. While I visit some of these Tromsø coffee shops more than others, I still recommend them all and think they are a great way to spend an hour or two during the day.

Delicious Cafes in Tromsø, Norway
1. Smørtorget
A cafe with good coffee, delectable pastries, and a loyalty card? Yes, please!
Smørtorget is one of the most popular cafes in Tromsø and one that I visit regularly. When you step inside, you will feel like you entered a vintage furniture shop with beautiful, unmatched pieces scattered about. The place exudes coziness.
They have tasty black coffee (what I usually go for as refills are cheap), cardamom buns and skolebrød (two of my favorite Norwegian sweet treats), and a small lunch menu where you’ll find soup and sandwiches.
Smørtorget is located in the heart of Tromsø and is a stone’s throw from some of the city’s most popular hotels and hotspots.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday (8am-6pm), Saturday (10am-6pm), Sunday (11am-6pm)
Address: Fredrik Langes gate 9, 9008 Tromsø

2. Risø
Another place that I love visiting in Tromsø is Risø. They have two locations in the city – one is a lunch bar (but with delicious coffee) and the other seems to be more pastry/coffee focused. I prefer the latter but love them both.
Risø Mat og Kaffebar (the lunch cafe) is situated at Strandgata 32 and Risø Kaffebar can be found at Sjøgata 8. I usually opt for a Kalita pour-over at the kaffebar (alongside a cinnamon bun, obviously).
At the lunch restaurant, you can find everything from seasonal salads to blomkålsuppe (cauliflower soup) and more. Both locations are closed on Sundays.
Address: Strandgata 32 and Sjøgata 8

3. Kaffebønna
If I were to pick a Tromsø coffee shop simply based on coffee alone, I would choose Kaffebønna. It is a small Tromsø chain, but they have everything I want in a cafe – cozy atmosphere, affordable coffee, and bread.
They have three locations in the city center – Stortorget 3, Strandtorget 1, and one inside the cruise ship terminal. There are other cafes outside the center but I haven’t visited them as I don’t venture out that way much when there.
You can get everything from a cortado to a black-filtered coffee. Refills are discounted (called ‘påfyll’). They also have beans for sale, so if you travel with an Aeropress like me, you can pick up a bag here. They also sell Aeropress accessories and filters. They sell beans from different roasteries in Norway, which is cool.
Other offerings are baked goods, fresh juice, and sandwiches. You may encounter a line there as this is one of the most popular coffee shops in the city.
Address: Multiple locations (city center ones noted above)

4. Fint Kafé & Bar
A newer (but also ‘not new’) place in Tromsø is Fint Kafe & Bar. Formerly Pust Cafe, this cafe is a must for those visiting the city. And, they turn into a bar and restaurant in the evenings, so you can stop by almost all day.
What I love most about Fint is that they have a spacious interior, so even when it is crowded, my claustrophobia doesn’t cause me any issues. Fint has a vintage market and events happening regularly. They also sell bags of coffee to take away (and some from other parts of Norway).
Lunch is served daily from 11am until 4pm and on Saturdays from 11am until 6pm.
Opening hours: Monday to Thursday (10am-4pm), Saturday to Sunday (10am until midnight)
Address: Skippergata 1C, 9008 Tromsø

5. Tøllefsenhjørnet
If you are after an early cup of coffee in Tromsø, look no further than Tøllefsenhjørnet. This small cafe is situated inside a yellow, wooden building and slightly on the edge of the center. In the evenings, it transitions into a wine bar.
When I visited (I need to get back asap), it had mostly local cafe-goers and the place was very quiet. It was a relaxing start to the day.
Opening hours: Monday and Tuesday (7:30am-6pm), Wednesday and Thursday (7:30am-10:30pm), Saturday (10am-12am), Sunday (11am-6pm)
Address: Storgata 49, 9008 Tromsø

6. Svermeri Kafé & Redesign
Svermeri Kafé & Redesign is a retro-inspired cafe in Tromsø and a cozy place to enjoy a coffee, hot chocolate, or cake with friends.
Situated on Skippergata, they have more than just coffee. You will find breakfast and brunch options, as well as plenty of homemade treats. The vibe makes you feel like you’ve entered into a cool vintage shop!
Svermeri Kafé & Redesign also offers a small lunch menu with items like salads and quiche.
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday (8am-5pm), Sunday (9am-5pm)
Address: Skippergata 2, 9008 Tromsø

7. Vervet Bakeri
Located in the newer development along the fjord (called Vervet), Vervet Bakeri is a fantastic spot for bread and coffee lovers!
I have visited a few times and had everything from coffee to cinnamon buns to sandwiches. I love grabbing one of their ham and cheese sandwiches and sitting on a bench at Vervet if the weather cooperates!
Vervet Bakeri can get a bit crowded, especially if you’re visiting in the morning or at lunchtime.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday (7am-4pm), Saturday (10am-4pm), Sunday (10am-3pm)
Address: Gjøastredet 1, 9008 Tromsø
Website: https://vervetbakeri.no/
8. Koseverden & Koselig
Koseverden & Koselig is a popular spot that is almost always crowded, but worth the wait! Renowned for its baked goods, breakfast menu, and lunchtime deli options, you can find everything from soups (like borscht!) to reindeer gryte on the menu.
This cafe is a local favorite and one I encourage you to visit if you’re looking for a tasty lunch or coffee.
Address: Storgata 45, 9008 Tromsø
Opening hours: Monday to Friday (8am-8pm), Saturday and Sunday (9am-8pm)
