About Tromsø Trip
The idea for Tromsø Trip started a few years ago when I (Megan) was spending long periods of time in Tromsø and realized that there weren’t any reliable websites out there that were delivering information in an objective manner to those visiting Tromsø.
The web was littered with travel bloggers who had spent 3-4 days in the city, wrote a slew of the same guides, and rarely updated them because they moved on to the next destination. I have a general travel blog, and I am also guilty of doing the same thing with certain destinations… so trust me, I know!

But I have a soft spot for Tromsø and have spent many years living in Norway, so I wanted to create a Tromsø travel blog that not only offered an overview of the best tours in the city, but also ways to help you find parking spots, affordable cafes, and what is open in Tromsø on Sundays (spoiler alert: not much).
As this site has evolved and tourism in Tromsø is hitting near-unsustainable levels, I have decided to focus my efforts on ensuring I prioritize local businesses as opposed to the flock of opportunistic outsiders who have moved to the city to capitalize on the boom in northern lights tourism.

As a result, you will see a lot of lesser-known activities here, as well as tours run by local people and those who have called Tromsø home for a decade or more. You’ll also see the ‘touristy’ stuff (like the Magic Ice Bar above). My partner, Ed Singleton, also helps with guides here, as he is often traveling with me in Tromsø.
I speak Norwegian and spend a lot of time in Tromsø and Northern Norway annually (I visit around 8-10 times a year). I have also worked with Visit Tromsø in the past and Northern Norway’s tourism board in many destinations before starting this website. I currently live in the Arctic and know what it is like to barely survive the Midnight Sun and thrive during the Polar Night (yeah, you read that right!).

On Tromsø Trip, I make a conscious effort to book and pay for everything independently so I can offer the most honest review possible. On the rare occasion that I collaborate with a business, I will be fully transparent about it, and it will only be with one I know or have used previously.
With that being said, I hope you find everything you need here on Tromsø Trip! Feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions; I am always open to feedback.
About Megan Starr
I’m Megan Starr, a travel blogger, writer, and long-time traveler who is the main one behind Tromsø Trip. I have been to around 105 countries but always find myself back in the Nordic region. I bought a house in Finnish Lapland with my partner, Ed (you can see more about him below), and in 2022, and we moved up north to finally live where we were spending most of our time anyway.

I am originally from Virginia in the US, and I also used to live in Bergen and Oslo for many years (so I am fluent in Norwegian). I have seen an incredible amount of Norway over the years and know Troms and Finnmark like the back of my hand.
I co-authored Fodor’s Travel ‘Essential Norway’ (2020 edition) and was the author for all of the mainland Arctic Norway chapters. I have also worked with Visit Norway, Northern Norway, Visit Tromsø, Visit Bodø, various tourism boards and DMOs in the Lofoten Islands, and Visit Nordkapp.
I have written pieces for National Geographic and Forbes, had photos featured in Lonely Planet and Food and Wine Magazine, and had my online projects featured in the New York Times and the BBC. But blogging and tourism development are my true passions.

Some things I like are tasty cinnamon buns, black coffee (it runs through my veins), autumn, stormy weather, overhead northern lights displays so I don’t have to leave my backyard, cute dogs, wearing absurd amounts of silver jewelry, synthpop and 80s music, and waterfalls. Black-legged kittiwakes are my favorite bird (and there are plenty to be found in Tromsø).
Some things I don’t like are dill, truffle oil, when people watch stuff on their phone without headphones (this includes FaceTime calls, sorry), fascism, reindeer sledding, and unpacking from trips. I also really don’t enjoy social media, but you’ll find me occasionally repurposing content on there from here to reach more people.
Happy to have you here and hope you have the most memorable trip to Tromsø, Norway!

We are Anti-AI
Other dedicated Tromsø websites have emerged over the last couple of years, but most are created with AI. This website is 100% human-written content and will never turn into one of those.
I will do my best to keep the website up-to-date and ensure it evolves with tourism regulations and trends happening in Norway.
