Clarion Hotel The Edge in Tromsø: Pros, Cons, & My Review
There are plenty of popular places to stay in Tromsø and while I have had a chance to stay at quite a few of them, one of my favorites will always be Clarion Hotel The Edge.
With a convenient location and an insanely good breakfast, it definitely is one of the top places to stay in Tromsø!

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the following:
About Clarion Hotel The Edge in Tromsø
Clarion Hotel The Edge is situated right along the water in Tromsø, Norway, only a stone’s throw from Prostneset, the Tromsø Cruise Ship Terminal.
This makes it ideal for everyone coming to the Arctic city, whether you’re flying in from abroad or simply looking for a stay after a long journey on the Hurtigruten.

The Tromsø accommodation, part of the famous Strawberry Hotels Group, has a variety of rooms. For reference, I stayed in a Standard Double Room.
Here are the options you have at The Edge:
- Compact single (1 person)
- Standard double (2 people – the room I stayed in)
- Standard twin (2 people)
- Superior double (2 people)
- Superior twin (2 people)
- Deluxe double (2 people)
- Junior Suite (4 people)
- Suite (2 people)
If you’re toting your furry companion along with you, The Edge is pet-friendly for a charge of 300 NOK per stay (about $30).
Every stay includes the morning breakfast, a fitness center (which has a sauna and yoga area), 24-hour reception, luggage storage, and more.
There is parking close to the hotel for a fee, or you can park in the large parking tunnel around 300m away, like I did (about 0.2 miles). Please note that this is the entrance to the tunnel – where you park inside of it may require a bit more walking!

Other food and drink options at the hotel include the Living Room Bar, Skybar, and The Social Tromsø. I didn’t have a chance to eat at The Social as there are other places in Tromsø I prefer more (you can see my restaurants guide here!), but I will get a chance one of these days.
Highlights of My Stay at Tromsø’s Clarion The Edge
The Room
The room was super cozy and I LOVED the bedding they used. So much that I spent my morning scouring around the internet for the exact bedding used (it is called Norsk Dun and their Hotel Collection is sadly a bit out of my price range but I will buy it one of these days!). I slept like a baby that night.

I also loved that when I arrived, there was a handwritten note by the housekeeper waiting for me in my room. While it is such a subtle touch, it really shows the thought that went into welcoming each and every guest to The Edge (thanks, Iryna!).

Everything else was great, and the Rituals products in the bathroom were the perfect touch. If you have good handwash, soap, and shampoo products for me to use, I automatically like you more. Just a simple fact.

The Breakfast
There is not much to say about this because I am easy to please with breakfast, but Ed is not. And he loved all of the hot items at Clarion’s breakfast. Another thing I appreciated is that the hotel marks its own waste in an effort of transparency and accountability.

Another simple touch that Clarion offered was a sign highlighting when the busier times at breakfast were. I am usually one of the first at breakfast since I wake up before 99% of the people in any location, but this is fantastic for those changing time zones who want to know when is best to set an alarm for breakfast on the second floor.

Polar Certificate
Clarion Hotel The Edge is the only hotel in Tromsø that offers the official Polar Certificate. You can read more about getting a Polar Certificate in Tromsø here, but it is nice (and convenient!) that The Edge offers this around the clock, so you don’t have to go to the tourism office, which has limited hours anyway.

Proximity to Everything Else in Tromsø
The Clarion Hotel in Tromsø has one of the best locations in the city, in my opinion. It is removed enough from the main harbor area that it stays pretty quiet, but it is located close to the cruise ship terminal and a Kaffbønna (one of my favorite coffee shops in Tromsø), so you have everything you need right beside you.

You are also located close to tour pick-up areas, so you won’t have to head across the city to any meeting points!
What I Would Change About My Stay
While I loved everything about my stay at Clarion The Edge, I would change the room I booked on my next trip there. While the room itself was amazing… the view was meh. I normally don’t care, but they have rooms that have seaviews, so I think I will splurge a little next time.

Or maybe I should use that extra surcharge to purchase the Norsk Dun bedding I mentioned above… Hm…
